Editing Practice

What are the correct answers?

Neither the twins nor Lola knew precisely what led Briony to abandon the (1) rihersels. At that moment, they did not even know she had. They (2) are doing the first scene, the one in which bed-bound Arabella first received into her garret, the prince (3) desguysed as the good doctor. It was going well enough, or no worst than usual, with the twins speaking (4) her lines no more ineptly than before.

Current Affairs

Who ever says that our younger generation is not concern about politics clearly has not been around the kiddos recently.

Over the weekends, I asked the kiddos 4 questions.

Teacher Jerry: "Children, can anyone tell me what's happening next Saturday?"
Kiddos rising their hands out of the water in excitement. **Pick me! Pick me! I know the answer!**

Kiddos: "It's the Presidential Election!"

Teacher Jerry: "Woah! You all know! Good. Ok, 2nd question! What's the Presidential Election about?"
The kiddos getting more and more excited now..  No longer rising their hands but shouting out the answers..

Kiddos: "It's to choose the next president for Singapore!!"

Teacher Jerry: "Ok. Very good. 3rd question. Getting difficult already oh... How many candidates are there in this election?"

Kiddos: "4!!!!"

Last question. The most difficult one.. What are their names?!

Surprisingly, the kiddos know their names! JiaWei could even tell me their names in Chinese! How impressive are our kiddos!

1) Dr Tony Tan
2) Dr Tan Cheng Bock
3) Mr Tan Jee Say
4) Mr Tan Kin Lian

We are more than a Teacher. We are like Wikipedia. Updated & Relevant. Haha..

P.s: Next week question will be, the name of our President! Those who answer the question wrongly will have to do a 500m swim. =0

Today Maths Question.

To put in a very nice word, I am Thrifty.

To put in blatantly, I am Stingy.

In order to save that 50cents coupon, I could park my van 1km away from my location and walk to my destination just so that I could save on that 50cents.

In order to save on that $1.30 can drink. I could walk all the way to NTUC to buy their promotion drinks.

In order to save on that small amount. I could Scrimp and save here and there.

At times, my movements irritates my wife. I am Sorry.

At times, I might have embarrassed her. I am Sorry.

But I am thankful to her. Thankful for her understanding. Thank you.

Most importantly, I want to thank her for going through our current financial situation now. We call it -
"An all time low bank account"

Yes, all our money are almost used up to pay for our wedding dinner banquet. While some couples wait till the end of the banquet to pay the bills, we've been paying our bills every quarterly so that we could make use of the cash rebates from Standard Chartered Manhattan Credit Cards.

Thank you Du Xiaoxin. Thank you for going through all these with me.

Dedicating this video to you! =)  為你我想做更好的人

Answers for P6 Science Question

Here's the answer for the P6 Science Question we asked yesterday.

Answer: The white flower will have some patches of blue and red.

Explanation:  As we all know, most plants absorb water from the ground through their roots. The water travels up the stem of the plant into the leaves and flowers where it makes food. When the flower is cut, it no longer has its roots, but the stem of the flower still absorb the water and provides it to the leaves and flowers.

There are two things that combine to move water through plants -- transpiration and cohesion. Water evaporating from the leaves, buds, and petals (transpiration) pulls water up the stem of the plant. This works in the same way as sucking on a straw.

Water that evaporates from the leaves "pulls" other water behind it up to fill the space left by the evaporating water. This can happen because water sticks to itself (called water cohesion) and because the tubes in the plant stem are very small (in a part of the plant called the xylem). This process is called capillary action.

Splitting the stem simply proves that the tiny tubes in the stem run all the way from the stem to the petals of the flowers.

We decided to help the P6 students in every little small way we can. So, starting from today, we will post P6 questions daily on our blogs. Answers and explanations will be revealed the next day.

A white flower has its stem cut into half. 1 half of it is being soaked in a beaker of red dye while the other is being soaked in a beaker of blue dye. After sometime, what color will the white flower become?

Recent reflections

My recent reflections have been somewhat interesting.. You know, hardly do we get a 5th week that falls from Friday - Sunday. So, the previous weekend was well spent doing some walkabouts and small little reflections.

I realised that people changes as with time and with the environment. With the higher standard of living, we began to work even harder to keep pace with everyone around us. At the end of the day, we might just miss out on the most important thing in life. i.e Growing up with your child.

We are getting married in December and we plan to have our dragon child next year. We paused while talking about it. Do we want to raise him/her/them up in this competitive environment where the strongest & fittest survive or do we want to bring him up in a slower pace environment where maybe we don't earn as much but at a happier lifestyle?

Is money everything? We are not a couple that seek frame and glory. Instead, spending time together with the family and watching our beloved Taiwanese drama every night for 1 hour to us is a blessing. I want my child to grow up in an environment where both of us have plenty of time to do everything with him/her/them.

If he/she/they have a concert in school, I want to make sure we are able to afford the time to be there for him.

If he/she/they wants to go to the Zoo, I want to make sure we are the ones who bring him there and not the school teachers.

If he/she/they wants to go out to the field to play and catch grasshoppers, I want to make sure that it's the real grasshopper that he catches and not show him how a grasshopper looks like thru google search.

If he/she/they wants to play a game, I want to make sure that we are in the game together with them and better still, create the game out of nothing but pure imagination and not just hand him an IPAD or IPhone and tell him, "Na... Go play"

To do all these, parents need to have the time for the children. How many hours does a Singapore parent have for their children / day? Quality time bonding with each other, talking about everything under the stars (exp School work), playing games with each other, holding their hands and go for a walk in the park?

My reflections kinda change my perspective towards life. And yes, we seek a simple lifestyle. A lifestyle which might no longer be able to achieve in Singapore.
